Like, at the moment? I've been listening to hip hop and rap since biggie and Pac. This is like asking me my favorite book, movie, or author, the variables are impossible. Dirty south? Hometown? NY? West Coast? Dope boy rap? Right now I've been listening to a lot of Benny the Butcher, 38 Spesh, and Black Thought. Oh and Tobe Nwigwe. There. But Push, Gucci Mane, and Ghostface Killa (solo) and Wu Tang are ALWAYS in rotation.

Sick! I always find it interesting to learn about the music taste of writers who are more literary than me. Does the need for great lyricism turn off when you listen to music? Thanks again for these autopsies, by the way! They're really helping me!

Brave, if foolhardy . . . I say again: BRAVE.

You have my respect boys. The Tyrant and the ARChitect. This was fascinating Substack journalism.

I had my virtual popcorn out yesterday, reading and maybe uttering a ladylike ‘oh my!’ on occasion.

I’ve not been round here all that long, so still sussing things out, but I know whose opinions and expertise I trust.

It’s far better to have a full on barney like adults, talk it out like adults and come out the other side like adults than the other stuff that played out.

Fake wife - WTF? It’s fine to faff about and write ‘stuff’ if that’s what you want, but Substack needs more eyes on fiction and the only way we’re going to have a chance at that is by putting the work in and producing quality as much as we can.

I’d have loved an unsolicited critique of my work in my early 20s, but dial up internet wasn’t a thing until I was in my early 30s and money was too tight for a computer. Subbing to magazines was really the only way, using ye olde Royal Mail. I’d have taken a harsh assessment any day.

Yes, Zivah. We will only get there by producing and promoting quality. Rasing the bar inch-by-inch. It has to be a collective effort.

I'm glad you did this one, Ottoman. 👍

How am I the only one to comment after this has been up for 10 hours? Substack is awfully quiet today.
